    Regarding the reader question about the value of receiving dividends rather than just selling off a portion of stock for income: what about DRIPs?

    Also, maybe dividends are better for a Graham-type of investor who purchases stock for the long term (even leaving them as inheritance for grandchildren). In this case, you would want to buy only when the price was attractive compared to value, which could be a once-in-a-lifetime event. Wouldn’t it better for these investors to skim the cream off the top rather than to sell them off piece by piece until there’s nothing left?
