Jon ‘DRJ’ Najarian is a professional investor, noted media analyst and speaker, and co-founder of optionMONSTER®. Following a brief stint as a Chicago Bears linebacker, Jon launched his financial career at the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) in 1981, trading in the pits for some 25 years. In 1989 he founded Mercury Trading, running the company for 15 years until 2004, when he sold his floor-trading operations to Citadel, one of the world’s largest hedge funds.
More recently, Jon – often known after his CBOE floor call letters ‘DRJ’ – has developed and patented trading applications used to identify unusual activity in stock, options, and futures markets. Most notable is the Heat Seeker® program, which uncovers extraordinary buying patterns from among the millions of quotes per second that stream from America’s stock, options, and futures exchanges. I thought I heard a recommendation to look at ENER (Energy Conversion Devices) during the podcast. The comment was that this company was big into hybrid batteries. I checked ENER's 10Q and it indicates only 5% of revenues for ENER are derived from their battery-related division, with the other 95% generated from their solar division. Did I get this right?
Click on the following link for an interesting critique of the Matt Taibbi Goldman Sachs article by Megan McArdle, columnist for the The Atlantic Monthly:

She, quite correctly, identifies a LOT of misinformation and incorrect analysis in the Taibbi article. Mr. Taibbi comes across more as a provocateur with a superficial knowledge of the capital markets and GS happens to make a very convenient target.
My take away from both articles is that one has to be careful when assessing blame for the current mess. The complexity of the problems resists the simple "sound bite" analysis so favored by the main stream media. IMO, there are many, many villains here. Some were just unwitting, herd followers and others were clearly operating with the full knowledge of the potential collateral damage they would eventually cause. Caveat emptor. Manage risk first, then return.

Alas, the old movie theater is now a boat showroom and marina supply store. Looking forward to the Taibbi interview! Be well.

Mike F. – so sorry to hear of the myopia.
You say, Tiabbi has just "a superficial knowledge of capital markets", Really? So he just dreamed all of this stuff up? GS is squeaky clean? Paulson's actions were just misunderstood? True, they're not the only culprit that manipulates markets, just one of the best if not the best.
If you take 3 seconds in a row to think and consider the content Andrew has had on his podcasts; Greenberger twice, G. Edward Griffin regarding the Federal Reserve, A.'s own commentaries on market action, oil prices, etc., you will see that the bottom line is the government, banks, and Fed all tie together, and GS is an integral part of the system.
My takeaway from your comments is one has to be careful when reading comments people post attempting to correct what others have written, all the while they themselves seem to present a superficial knowledge of capital markets, and then calling them finger pointers at such reputable companies as GS.
Here's an interview with a very animated Max Keiser. He points out much of the same information and conclusions as Matt Tiabbi only more fiercely. Are these two men paranoid and delusional and filling people's heads with misinformation and incorrect analysis? You be the judge.
